Rashed Karkain

Head of Sewage Treatment Section, Dubai Municipality

Rashed Karkain is a Ph.D. Scholar and Researcher at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) and a Chemical Engineer graduated from University of South Florida with a Master of Science in Innovation & Change Management from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU). He has more than 20 years experience on the Technical as well as Leadership level in Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies and Planning, Air Quality Monitoring, Management of Hazardous Waste and Dangerous Goods, Sustainable Waste Management System, Occupational Health and Safety and Integrated and Sustainable Sewage Treatment. He has achieved Dubai Government Excellence Award twice, the First Place for Technical Project in 2010 and the Second Place on Technical Outstanding Employee in 2016. Currently Rashed is Head of Section the at Sewage Treatment Plant Department at Dubai Municipality and Founder of Rashed Karkain Research & Training Institute. He has conducted variety of speeches, presentations, trainings & workshops as well as research papers. Rashed is also lecturer at Canadian University of Dubai and Zayed University.

Yoomin Lee, PhD

Regional Wastewater Practice Lead in Middle East and Asia Pacific, CH2M

Yoomin Lee has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Jeju University in South Korea and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from University of Manitoba. Yoomin has worked and resided in Canada, Australia and the UAE.

She is currently CH2M’s Regional Wastewater Practice Lead in Middle East and Asia Pacific. She has more than 16 years of experience in all aspects of investigation, planning, design and operational review of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, water reuse, and biosolids in North America, Australia and New Zealand, UAE, and India.

Yoomin has specialized experience in process evaluations, process design for wastewater and water reuse, and mechanical system layouts for treatment facilities as well as experience in modelling wastewater treatment plant performance.

Maher Ezzeddine

Head of Land , Water, and Environment Department, SETS

Maher Ezzeddine is a Civil Engineer with over 13 years of experience in large infrastructure projects in Asia and North Africa, particularly in the design of stormwater drainage systems and in the field of hydrology. He has contributed to projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, UAE, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Morocco, Oman and Syria. Maher’s experience in the region, specifically in the field of hydrology, is demonstrated through his involvement in major strategic projects such as: King Abdulaziz Road, Haramein High Speed Rail, Mashaer Muqaddasa Metro, North-South Railway Project, and others.
 
Maher is currently the Head of the Land, Water and Environment Department at SETSintl and is leading the infrastructure track on many strategic projects.
 
Maher has a PMP certificate and is highly proficient in a wide array of hydrology and hydraulic software including but not limited to StormCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and Culvert Master.

Emile Zankoul

Design Technology Unit Manager, SETS

Emile Zankoul is a Civil Engineer with experience in large infrastructure projects in the Middle East. His experience covers areas including project management, engineering design and BIM. He is currently working as the Design Technology Unit Manager at SETSintl.
 
Emile holds a Master’s Degree in Construction Engineering Management from the American University of Beirut with a research focus on simulation, visualization and optimization of construction operations as well as the application of Information Technology in engineering and construction.
 
Emile has also received several certifications including LEED AP ND and PMP, and has attended an Executive BIM Training Course administrated by Stanford University. He is also proficient in several BIM software such as Revit, Civil 3D and Navisworks.

Abir Oueidat

Product Consultant - Hydraulics and Hydrology, Bentley Systems

Abir recently joined Bentley Systems as the Hydraulics and Hydrology Product Consultant. She comes from a civil engineering background, with around 10 years of experience on big scale, wet-utilities projects in the MENA region.

Prior to joining Bentley, Abir worked with Khatib and Alami CEC for 8 years, on multiple projects in the MENA region, including water and wastewater masterplans, distribution and transmission networks, pumping stations, water filling stations and water reservoirs. She also worked with CH2M for 2 years on a large-scale water masterplan.

Abir holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Université Saint-Joseph in Lebanon, where she specialized in hydraulics, and a Master’s Degree in Hydraulic Sciences.
